Storm Over Port Nicholson

Be thou the rainbow in the storms of life. The evening beam that smiles the clouds away, and tints tomorrow with prophetic ray.

Wellington Panorama

Wellington Panorama, originally uploaded by Christopher Chan.

Wellington is the southernmost national capital city in the world, with a latitude about 41°S. It is more densely populated than most other settlements in New Zealand, due to the small amount of building space available between the harbour and the surrounding hills. Because of its location in the roaring forties latitudes and its exposure to omnipresent winds coming through Cook Strait, the city is known to Kiwis as "Windy Wellington". (Wikipedia)

The Classic Wellington Shot(tm)

You can find a postcard of Wellington with almost this same shot on it all over New Zealand.

In the foreground, the red vehicle is one of the two Wellington Cable Cars

The tall red and silver building to the right is the Majestic Centre, the tallest building in Wellington.

The black building in the middle is the State Insurance building (was once the BNZ Centre Building)

Behind the foreground buildings is downtown Wellington.
The water to the left is Port Nicholson Harbour.

The mountain immediately behind the city is Mount Victoria, where many good views and photographs are had.

Behind that is the Rimutaka and Orongorongo Ranges, and behind that is the Wairarapa.

Last light of the day over Wellington

Color version of the Black and White one above - the very last after glow of the day on a longer exposure - bigger is better - get the big version up

Wellington New Zealand - Big Cog 1

It's a big cog, which sits in a very uninspiring park, in a slightly empty part of Wellington, but i wanted to capture the scale of the thing and make it striking, while having a bit of the decay / industrial thing going on

Mount Wellington

View from Mount Wellington looking north. I didn't get too close to these cows so they didn't hassle me like their friends from the other park did.
